Vices [Hope is far from home] is an extraordinary short film based on a true life story. The movie which features a team of young people will be released in October.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The world is no stranger to the menace of crime and drug abuse eating deep into the fabric of the society. There are daily reports on the extent of these vices but little action to reach the main victims – the youths. While there are several channels through which young people can be accessed, entertainment remains the most potent. It is with this knowledge that BlueInk Media partnered with 18-year-old filmmaker, Favour Akubo and a cast of young people between the ages of 17-23 to produce the short film, ‘Vices’.
As an entertainment medium, ‘Vices’ examines the choices open to young people and the factors that leave them prone to crime and drug abuse. It follows the main character, IkechukwuObioria who has lofty dreams of becoming a world acclaimed singer but has to deal with the demons of family issues, drug use, crime and peer pressure on his road to success.
What happens to Ikechukwu’s dream and ambitions? What led him to crime and drug abuse? Is Ikechukwu’s story common among young people? These and more are the stories that the short film answers with a perfect blend of twists, turns and humour relatable to not just young people but the entire society.
A material of this nature is usually done from the humane part of the heart as the cause and solving the menace takes eminence. ‘Vices’ is no different as it is a love project the team embarked on with meagre resources but with hope high enough to make the world a better place. We want the world to see our film and more so, we want to continue this anti-drug abuse and anti-crime campaign. We need your help and would love you to join us in this journey.
