Traditional weddings are beautiful symbolic occasions, which mark the ‘official engagement’ between couples and the trends at which these events happen change over time.
This interesting event has stepped up in a major way and we can tell you that things are nowhere near what it used to be.
From the Eye popping attires to the ceremony proper, Nigerian Traditional weddings are a delight any day.
Let’s look at some of the exciting Nigerian traditional wedding trends!
1. Trendy Gele Styles
The unconventional gele is the latest trend in town and we are so here for it! This traditional gele is one with a twist and has become the go to style for unconventional brides.
With this style, you are sure to stand out from the crowd. It is not so precise and appears in different structures and shapes.
The best part is it is not so hard to tie. All you have to do is fold and turn until you get the desired style.
2. Photo and Video Booth
This is usually at the reception and after party where friends and families take turns in groups to explore the fun, magic and engagement of the photo and video booth.
This adds so much fun, creativity & glee to the event as the photo booth comes with instant quality prints, fun props and more.

3. The After-Party trend
This special session happens after the kids and parents have gone home. It is one every bachelor and spinster anticipates at every wedding because of the fun. The money spraying, jumping and dancing on the smoky dance floor all adds up to the fun.
It is also an opportunity for some guys and ladies to link up. Who knows?
4. Traditional Outfits
When attending a traditional wedding, one thing to look forward to is the Couple’s outfit. Couples dress in outfits unique to their tribe and the creativity at which this is done has greatly evolved over the years.
Brides now opt for more stylish blouses instead of the standard blouse and wrapper adding trendy chips like feathers or fringe.
As for the tailoring, the bride’s dress or blouse is usually fitted to emphasize the figure of the bride.
5. Formation by the Asoebi Gang!
At almost every traditional wedding, there is Asoebi for Ore-iyawo( Bride’s Friends) and Ore-oko(Groom’s Friends). These categories of people who are most times the highlight of the traditional wedding are referred to as the Aso Ebi gang or Aso Ebi Squad.
The squad are nearly always dressed in colours that would complement the couple’s outfit and this makes them stand out after the couple. And these days, they turn up in exquisite aso ebi styles and designs.
6. Grand Wedding Entrance
When making your entrance, it has to be in grand style. Gone are the days when couples just dance into the hall. Now, they make an entrance. The bride in the picture above arrived in a boat!
We have seen couples descending from the ceiling, in a horse-drawn carriage, in a Royce Rolls and even a split screen.

7. Wearing Of Multiple Dresses By The Bride
Brides now go all out. We are not referring to the normal changing to wedding gown to a reception dress. We are referring to rocking more than 3 outfits at your traditional wedding.
One of the famous daughters of billionaire oil mogul Mohammed Indimi, Hauwa rocked nine different outfits at her weeklong wedding. Nollywood actor, Adesua Etomi-Wellington wore four different outfits at her wedding ceremony.
Because these celebrations usually involve many activities, brides go from the glamorous outfit to the simple yet elegant one that makes her more relaxed and comfortable.
