“The change we seek in this country can only be achieved by young people like us, and for this reason, I remain committed to playing my part – making key contributions to all-round national development.” These were the patriotic words of the former Vice-Presidential candidate of Young Progressives Party upon receiving her nomination certificate at her residence on Friday, November 8, 2019.
As the Deputy National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Hajiya Getso succeeded in creating a unique platform for the younger Nigerian populace to exploit unlikely political opportunities. Barely two years after inception, the party now boasts of a seat at the 9th Senate with its representative occupying a principal role in the country’s most revered sector; a feat no other new political party in the country has been able to achieve. The women rights ambassador will now look to build further on this achievement to drive more positive change.
“My ambition to venture into politics began when I was in secondary school. We had the opportunity to welcome the late Muammar Ghaddafi on his visit to the country. His ideas for a united Africa sparked a strong passion in me and there and then, I decided that I will get into the system and try to change things for the better against all odds. We have only one Nigeria and Africa, and we must fight for it.” Said the business entrepreneur who also co-founded the National Progressive Movement (NPM). The nation builder alongside other meritoriously nominated awardees will be presented their awards at the NAF Conference Centre and Suites, Abuja on Monday, December 16, 2019.
