When I first heard about #FemKutiLiveinAbuja, I told myself I wasn’t going to miss it for anything. Am not like an ardent follower of Femi Kuti’s music but I do live performance and I knew Femi was going to come with the best of that.
Femi is a four times Grammy nominated act and an international artist by every standard and so my expectations were actually very high.
The concert was billed to start by 6pm but when I walked into the arena around 7pm I saw Femi Kuti on stage with his band doing sound check and mini rehearsal. About 30 minutes Femi left the stage to make way for the opening acts.
To open the night was Jhamal. Dunnie, Kaline, Others include Ric Hassani, Classiq, Prokassy, Jilex, Cheso, Niyola and finally Jesse Jazz. Cheso and Kaline were the two most outstanding acts of the night.
Finally it was time for Femi Kuti to perform but his band and dancers had to first go ahead of him. Femi’s entrance was dramatic and epic. It’s hard to aptly capture Femi’s performance in words but what I can say is that whoever didn’t go for that concert really missed. Big thanks to Chocolate City, iBlend and Etisalat for pulling off such a great show. Timmy Elegbede and Big MO Naija were the anchors for the event. Below are exclusive images from the event.
