Like we all know every 14th day of February marks the most romantic day of the year and guess what? That day happens to be today. 1. What Is Valentine’s Day?
It’s an annual holiday celebrated on February 14. On this day, people show their affection for another person or people by sending cards, flowers or gifts with messages of love. This day isalso called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine.

Valentine’s Day is thought to have started and first celebrated in the year 496.
3. Where Was It First Celebrated?
Valentine celebration originated from Rome and was first celebrated there. The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February – officially the start of their springtime. It’s thought that as part of the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box. They’d be boyfriend and girlfriend during the festival and sometimes they’d get married. Later on, the church wanted to turn this festival into a Christian celebration and decided to use it to remember St Valentine.
4. Why Is It Being Celebrated?
Valentine’s day is to celebrate our loved ones. It’s a special day to remind people of the love they have. It was created to remember St Valentine who was imprisioned for his faith. Every day he sent love notes to his wife from prison that is how the tradition of giving loving notes to our special ones began.
5. Who Was Saint Valentine?
The day gets its name from a famous saint, but there are several stories of who he was. The popular belief about Saint Valentine is that he was a priest from Rome in the third century AD. Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men were bad soldiers. Saint Valentine felt this was unfair, so he broke the rules and arranged marriages in secret. When Claudius found out, Valentine was thrown in jail and sentenced to death. There, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and when he was taken to be killed on 14 February he sent her a love letter signed “from your Valentine”.
6. How Do We Celebrate Valentine’s Day?
The best way is showing your love for someone. But that is not always the case, you might just show your closest and best friends how important they are to you. You can send them cards, flowers, gifts or even take them out to somewhere special.
