The BlueInk team curates the best places to get food so you don’t have to stress over it. We visited ten (10) restaurants in the FCT and here’s what we think about these places.
Reviewer Victor Odiba had a never-before great experience here and this is how he sums it:
“Nkoyo was a name that rang a bell and I had heard of it before. I’m always a friend of retro things so I was quickly overwhelmed by the ambience. The Items on the menu seemed reasonably priced with most meals ranging between N2, 250 and N3, 850. More so, I like the waiting strategy at Nkoyo because you are served some fried sweet-potato crackers and some minty-green spices to take your mind off the wait for your main course. (Good bribe if you ask me)
The meal came in good time and I couldn’t even finish my steak portion which speaks volumes for the quantity of the food. Good value for money guys. In fact, Nkoyo is a whole experience that you wouldn’t want to end. Needless to say, I was impressed as I had never had something like that in a Nigerian restaurant before. In summary, we rate Nkoyo (K-city plaza) a whopping 8 points. Don’t drop the quality and you need to go get that wonderful experience.”
- Madre’s Restaurant
They ticked all the right boxes for Reviewer Aliyu Gidado and he promises that they will sure hear from him again. This is how he describes his experience.
“Madre’s Restaurant has a beautiful ambience with large windows that let in natural light. The lights work in cool harmony with low soft music that keeps playing in the background. You know that kind of music that doesn’t distract. You know the best part? I did not have to wait up to 10 minutes before the waiter brought my meal. But this timeliness did not prepare me for the aroma that hit; which was only surpassed by the beautiful arrangement of garnished sea food contrasted by a slab of spicy rice. Of course, there were portions of coleslaw and chili sauce by the side. Voila! Let’s do this, I said to myself.
With my mouth watering, I picked up my fork to dig in to the culinary piece of artwork. I was not prepared for the way the flavours danced on my tongue, giving me an extraordinary and pleasant taste experience, Madre’s is that restaurant that one will always return to and guess what? The prices are very pocket friendly. So, when next you are in Wuse 2, hop in there.”
- Cubana Grill and Bush Bar
Reviewer Aliyu Gidado was really surprised and he shares his experience with such delight!
“A well-dressed fellow in black and white like the floor tiles (no shade intended) came over to welcome me. I must say that he was nice and polite. About 20 minutes later, a bowl of clean water and a tray of a cylindrical mould of wheat and hot okro soup was placed before me. On a side note, I need to mention that the shawarma here is amazing and does not leave your hand messy like some place down the same street.
Back to our swallow and soup. The food was absolutely delicious with well-seasoned assorted meat and moderately spiced soup. Every swallow passed through my throat with pleasure. I was pleasantly surprised and trust that you would have a better experience when you drop by at Cubana Grill and Bush Bar.”
- Apple Boulevard Restaurant
This awesome place left a sweet taste in Reviewer Aliyu Gidado’s mouth. He spilled all the gist.
“From the man at the desk to the waitress and the manager – all polite, neatly dressed, well-mannered and friendly, I knew I was in for a treat but I needed to confirm. First call, my starter arrived – a mocktail which was very tasty. Great start which made me settle in and hand over my phone to be hooked to the Wi-Fi. Guys, this has to be the best thing – the Wi-Fi connection was very fast and strong.
The main dish of mixed grill and fries soon arrived. Time to dig in. The mixed grill had prawns, chicken, beef and fish. Guys, the three words to describe the food are ‘appetizing, scrumptious and yummy’. Everything went perfectly and I can say I’m in love with Apple Boulevard Restaurant and bar for they have a lot to offer with an impressive service system.
Oh, did I mention the waitress was very kind enough to walk me and out and she said “please sir come again with friends”. You bet I will and you guys have to help me fulfil this promise.”
- 805 Restaurant
This place really impressed Reviewer Aliyu Gidado in every way. Here’s what he has to say.
“As a restaurant known for its vast eclectic cuisine and one of the few old restaurants still standing tall within the metropolis of Abuja, my expectations were really high. As we pulled in, we were greeted by the security men who opened our car doors with warm smiles among other unanticipated pleasant gestures.
Our host gave an assuring smile and assured us it would take just 15 minutes for our order to be ready and gracefully begged to be excused. This warmed our hearts; in this country where customer service is a struggle, this restaurant just bought us over. Little did we know that the best was yet to come as exactly 12 minutes later, she returned with our food and took 2 minutes to get the table set. The pounded yam was soft and just right. As for the soup, hmmm, words are not enough to explain.
I could still taste the freshness of the soup and I didn’t have to struggle with the meat as it was well seasoned and cooked. I tried in my usual mischief to play the devil’s advocate by attempting to find fault but honestly found none – these guys seemed to have it all covered; from taste, to staffing, to hygiene, to management, you name it! The level of professionalism displayed is quite remarkable and it explained the spread of this noble restaurant to Ghana and even London where it has played host to Hollywood actress, Gabrielle Union.”
- The Quarter café
Reviewer Aliyu Gidado had a quarter back hangout with his guys here and they had a swell time that he sums up as follows.
“My friend and I took out time to admire the serenity and pulchritude of the ambience which had a purely British setting, engulfing us with the illusion of Buckingham Palace. Our orders were executed in time and the sight of it made us salivate. It did not take long before we began to dig into the appealing delectable beauties.
Lest I forget, I have had strawberries countless times in the city but none of them had tasted as good and sweet as the ones we had here. These ones were devoid of the usual sour taste. I recommend this place to those who enjoy having a quiet time to either work or read a book and it’s a good venue to have a book club meetings and poetic gathering.”
- 355 Steakhouse
Dinner at this wonderful place pleased Reviewer Aliyu Gidado in every way possible and he excitedly writes about it.
“Within minutes of our arrival, we were served with chips and salsa with our drinks on the rocks. Honestly, this was the best chips and salsa I have had so far in the city of Abuja. The genre of music playing in the background was so good that the songs brought back old memories. While we were settling in all the tranquillity the ambience the ambience provided, our dinner arrived. The sight of the plating was captivating and further invited us to eat eagerly.
The mashed potatoes was smooth and garnished so well. Guys, it wasn’t plain and compared to the ones I have had in other restaurants, this one took the lead. The chicken Oscar was grilled chicken breast, well-seasoned and lightly spiced with black pepper, served on a pool of special gravy recipe and garnished with broccoli. Steakhouse has won my heart with her well-mannered and friendly staff, impeccable services, good vibe and above all delicious meals professionally executed.”
- Country Place Restaurant
This place nearly killed Reviewer Aliyu Gidado with their generosity and he tells the tale with such delight.
“The samosa was golden brown, crispy and filled with minced meat with sweet chilli sauce that awakened our taste buds. Quite a yummy starter. Moments later came our food and the sight of mine made me smile. The chef is good and deserves to be applauded. Every spoon of rice came with shrimps.
It was time for desert but we couldn’t as we had outdone ourselves so I settled for coffee while the rest continued with their long island. Country Place Restaurants gives you good quality, quantity and good services for your money. One word to describe them is ‘GENEROSITY’. Country Place deserves applause for her good services, good food quality and quantity and beautiful setting.”
- Woks and Koi
Reviewer Aliyu Gidado had a very pleasant experience here and he narrates his experience in way that makes us want to get some of that experience for ourselves.
“Food was served under the expected time. Quite surprising. No wonder ‘Express’ is amongst the restaurant’s name. It was a delicious experience; I mean in less than 15minutes such a yummy and palatable meal was well executed without any fault. I was truly at the right place. It was the same with the prawn sauce; it was just perfect and the quantity of the food was quite sizeable too.
Woks&koi Express Chinese Restaurant is firing her dragon balls for the skies with her impeccable services, affordable meals, adequate space management, polite and friendly staff.”
10. Cefe De Vie
Reviewer Jenny Yohanna surely thinks lemonades are Beyonce’s at this beautiful place and her tale helps us agree.
“Café de vie is lit guys! It’s one of the coolest hidden places in Abuja that is not rowdy despite the fact that it’s exquisite. The pancakes were out of this world. Truth is, I couldn’t have been able to figure out the recipe for that pancake. I can’t tell you guys how delicious it was because it’s beyond description when laced with the syrup *yumyum*.
The Lemonade was everything Beyoncé is, was and will ever be – Divine! The best thing about café de vie is the Cooking lessons they offer for anything you eat? They also teach you how to Knit, Master the Piano and Photography. Cool right? You should stop by.”
